The Powder Coater II ensures consistent production of high-quality, durable, and cosmetically acceptable finishes that meet or exceed company and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Evaluate incoming parts for surface defects and take corrective action or escalate issues prior to coating.
    • Recommend improvements to fixturing and masking techniques to enhance quality and throughput.
  • Powder Coating Application
    • Set up, operate, and optimize powder coating equipment, including spray guns, booths, and reclaim systems.
    • Apply powder with consistent film build and cosmetic quality across a variety of part geometries and finishes.
    • Independently adjust parameters such as voltage, air pressure, and gun settings to achieve optimal transfer efficiency and finish quality.
    • Troubleshoot application issues including Faraday cage effects, uneven coverage, and contamination.
  • Curing & Process Control
    • Monitor and verify oven performance, including temperature profiling and dwell time validation.
    • Ensure proper curing across varying part masses and configurations.
    • Identify and resolve curing-related defects such as undercure, overbake, or gloss inconsistencies.
  • Inspection & Quality
    • Perform detailed visual, thickness, and adhesion inspections using appropriate measurement tools.
    • Identify root causes of coating defects and implement corrective actions.
    • Lead rework decisions and ensure proper segregation and documentation of nonconforming material.
    • Maintain high cosmetic standards, especially for customer-facing or critical components.
  • Maintenance, Safety & Housekeeping
    • Perform routine maintenance and deeper cleaning of coating equipment to prevent contamination and ensure consistent performance.
    • Identify equipment issues proactively and assist with troubleshooting and minor repairs.
    • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols related to powders, grounding, ventilation, and oven operation.
  • Documentation & Continuous Improvement
    • Accurately record production metrics, process parameters, and quality data.
    • Participate in and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to coating efficiency, material usage, and defect reduction.
    • Assist in developing and refining work instructions and standard operating procedures.
    • Train and mentor Powder Coater I employees on proper techniques, equipment use, and quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in powder coating or industrial finishing.
  • Strong working knowledge of powder coating systems, materials, and curing processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot coating defects and optimize process parameters.
  • Familiarity with inspection tools (e.g., mil thickness gauges) and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions, prints, and process specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on cosmetic excellence.
  • Ability to lift and handle metal components and stand for extended periods.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a finishing environment with exposure to powder materials, curing ovens, and industrial equipment. Proper PPE, including respirators, gloves, and safety glasses, is required.
