Mentor A Promise is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth (ages 5–18) experiencing housing instability, grounded in the belief that every child is a Promise—full of potential, dignity, and possibility. We deliver consistent, high-quality programming across mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, and creative expression in shelters, schools, and community spaces, creating structured environments where students can grow, be seen, and build lasting skills. HR Generalist (Volunteer) Organization: Mentor A Promise (MAP) Location: Remote Type: Volunteer (Unpaid) Role Overview We are seeking a Volunteer HR Generalist to support the day‑to‑day operations of MAP’s Human Resources team. This role will focus on volunteer onboarding, record‑keeping, and coordination of HR processes to ensure a smooth and supportive experience for all volunteers. It is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in nonprofit HR, people operations, or organizational development. Key Responsibilities Assist with the onboarding process, including communication, documentation, and orientation scheduling Maintain accurate volunteer records and HR databases Support compliance with HR policies and procedures Coordinate communication between HR leadership and volunteers Help organize HR initiatives such as training, engagement activities, and feedback collection Provide administrative support to the HR team and Director of HR Qualifications Strong organizational and communication skills Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, Gmail) Interest in HR, nonprofit management, or people operations Prior HR or administrative experience (preferred but not required) Commitment Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week Minimum 6-month commitment preferred Fully remote with virtual meetings What You’ll Gain Hands‑on experience in nonprofit HR operations Opportunities to learn about people management and compliance in a mission‑driven setting Collaboration with a supportive and passionate team Professional references and letters of recommendation How to Apply Interested candidates should apply directly through Idealist, please include a resume.
