Job Description

Family Dollar is seeking a highly versatile, hands-on, strategic Manager, Corporate Communications to join the Corporate Communications team. This role is ideal for a proactive communicator who thrives in fast-paced, high-change environments and enjoys both shaping and building communications strategy and executing with excellence.

Reporting to the Director of Corporate Communications, this role partners closely with leaders across the organization to develop clear, compelling narratives that strengthen associate engagement, support business transformation, and protect and promote the Family Dollar brand.

The Manager, Corporate Communications operates as a true communications

generalist supporting internal communications, employee engagement, media

relations, and issues management. This individual must be equally comfortable

advising leaders on messaging and strategy as they are developing content,

managing communications channels, and executing enterprise communications initiatives.

This role offers significant visibility across the organization and exposure to key

areas including business transformation, executive communications, change

management, employee engagement, and public relations.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Communications Strategy

  • Partner with the Director of Corporate Communications to develop and execute integrated communications strategies aligned with company priorities and transformation efforts.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to business leaders on messaging, positioning, and stakeholder communications.
  • Develop internal and external messaging that supports business priorities, corporate initiatives, and the Family Dollar employer brand.
  • Support development of corporate materials including leadership communications, briefing documents, reports, and stakeholder updates.
  • Maintain and manage the corporate communications editorial calendar via Monday platform.
  • Conduct communications research and analysis to inform messaging and corporate positioning.
  • Maintain organized communications templates, assets, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with CISION media monitoring and measurement tools in order to produce reports and analytics to support communication programming.

Internal Communications & Employee Engagement

  • Develop and execute internal communications strategies that inform, inspire, and engage associates while reinforcing company strategy, culture, and values.
  • Serve as a communications advisor to business leaders, including VPs, providing messaging support for major initiatives, transformation efforts, and change communications.
  • Create compelling content across multiple internal channels including intranet (SharePoint), newsletters, digital signage, mobile engagement platforms, email communications, and enterprise meetings such as Town Halls.
  • Develop executive communications including speeches, talking points, announcements, and leadership messages.
  • Partner closely with HR and other functions to support engagement initiatives and culture-building programs.
  • Measure effectiveness of internal communications through analytics and feedback and optimize communications accordingly.
  • Ensure message consistency and governance across internal communications platforms.
  • Translate complex business initiatives into clear, cohesive communications campaigns that resonate with associates across the organization.

Intranet Governance & Communications Channels

  • Own governance, structure, and content standards for the SharePoint intranet.
  • Establish publishing workflows, content guidelines, and editorial standards.
  • Maintain accuracy, usability, and alignment of intranet content with company priorities.
  • Manage and optimize internal communications channels including intranet, email, and enterprise communication platforms.

Public Relations & Issues Management

  • Support the company’s media relations efforts by managing inbound media inquiries and assisting with the development of press materials.
  • Serve as a liaison with the company’s PR agency of record to support ongoing media outreach and storytelling opportunities.
  • High degree of comfort managing media and serving as company spokesperson as appropriate.
  • Monitor emerging issues and reputational risks, providing communications insight and recommendations to leadership.
  • Support development and execution of issues management and crisis communications strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to elevate Family Dollar’s brand and leadership through media engagement, thought leadership, and external communications.

Education & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, or a related field.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, internal communications, public relations, or related disciplines.
  • Experience supporting communications in corporate, transformation, or high-change environments preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to advise business leaders on communications strategy.
  • Proven ability to simplify complex topics into clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Experience managing digital communications platforms and content management systems (e.g., SharePoint, WordPress).
  • Familiarity with communications analytics and engagement measurement.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to partner effectively with cross-functional teams and agency partners.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to drive communications initiatives from concept through execution.
